What is SOCKS5?

SOCKS is an internet protocol that routes packets between a server and a client using a proxy server.

Currently, SOCKS5 is the latest and most modern version of the SOCKS protocol. This protocol is improved from SOCKS4 which has support for TCP and UDP which greatly enhances security. Also, provides three types of authentication methods:

• No authentication: No authentication is required to connect to the proxy.
• Username/password authentication: Need to provide login details.
• GSS-API: Both the user and the server use OS-level authentication to verify identity.
